Psychiatric Services Department

What is the Psychiatric Services Department?

Our Psychiatric Services Department at the Community Guidance Center (CGC) is comprised of Psychiatrists, Certified Registered Nurse Practitioners (CRNP), Physician Assistants (PA), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) and Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA) depending on location where you are receiving your services.

What Will Your First Appointment/Initial Evaluation Be Like?

Your first appointment within the psychiatric services department will be for an initial evaluation which is typically an hour long appointment. This appointment is for an assessment of a person’s mental, social and psychological functionality. The psychiatrist develops a profile which includes information about chief complaint, present illness, psychological adjustments made before onset of disease, individual and family history of psychiatric or mental disorders, early developmental history, and substance abuse history. The staff at that time can prescribe the consumer medications if it is medically necessary and make additional treatment recommendations, if medically necessary. If a consumer has had a previous initial evaluation at any of the Center’s locations, your first appointment will be an extended medication check to update your information since your previous treatment episode at the Center. (An extended medication check can range from 20 to 40 minutes).

Medication Check Appointments

Following your initial appointment, if you are prescribed medications you will be scheduled for a follow up medication check with a staff member of the psychiatric services program. Medication checks are for 15 minutes and are scheduled as medically necessary (bi-weekly, monthly, bi-monthly, etc.).
